"Field of Flags" Ceremony

3000 flags wave proudly at Kennesaw Mountain commemorating those that died on Sept 11, 2001

On September 11, 2006, the Marietta Kiwanis Club honored those that died in the terrorist attacks on our country on September 11, 2001 with a  moving memorial at Kennesaw Mountain Park.  Over 3000 flags were displayed in the field at the park for three days leading up to this ceremony.

Trent Turk, CEO of GeoSurvey and member of the Marietta Kiwanis, offered the time and talents of the employees of GeoSurvey to assist in the efforts to place the 3000 flags inScott Cherry, Ronald Watson, and Jamey Coleman stake flag positions with our EGPS survey equipment the field.  The 3000 flags were positioned in the field on a 10’ grid.  An initial survey of the field was first performed in 2003, the first time the flags were placed in the field.  Utilizing the information gathered in this survey, we placed markers for the flags to be positioned in the field.

The employees that participated in the survey were Jamey Coleman, Scott Cherry, Suzanne Kloth, Cheryl Panchyn, Karen Arp, Ronald Watson, and Trent Turk.  Hundreds of people attended the ceremony and tribute on September 11th.  The event was covered by local news affiliates and was a very moving tribute to those that passed five years ago.
